WELLBEING TIPS
Wellbeing isn’t something we find once and keep forever. It’s something we gently return to, day by day, through the small choices we make.
Whether you’re looking for better sleep, stress relief, or simply wanting to feel more balanced, these simple practices can help support your body and mind. We hope they inspire you to slow down, breathe deeply and reconnect with yourself.
Better Sleep
A good night’s sleep is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. When we sleep well, our bodies repair, our minds become clearer and we have more energy to enjoy each day.
We have evening classes at 7.45 & 8pm that are aimed at slowing and quietening. Expect candles, camomile tea, quiet music and a soothing class of Slow Flow, Restore or Yin. After one of these classes your body, mind and nervous system will be much less in survival and more open to true deep rest and sleep.
At home compliment this with less or no screen time after 8pm. Write down any thoughts or to-do lists. Take a quiet moment before bed to remember something from your practice or just acknowledge your day, tomorrow is new so you now deserve the rest.
Managing Stress
Stress is a natural part of life, but when it becomes constant it can affect our energy, mood and overall health. The studio, teachers and teachings are all designed to help you regulate but also build a resilience to lifestyle challenges. When stress is too much life feels too much.
A regular practice where you allow an hour (we recommend at least one class per week) to be guided into a less stressed and more centred and healthy state is the returning to homeostasis and the more we go there the more easily we can move from stress to rest, from stress to rest. Like energy flowing life flows better when we don't allow stress to build to a point that it blocks us.
As well as classes try: breathing slowly for ten minutes, take a step outside and reconnect to a bigger picture, take/do one thing at a time and it's ok to rest.
Supporting Your Nervous System
Both of the above are linked to the nervous system. Our nervous system is constantly responding to the world around us. When we’re under pressure, it can remain in a state of alertness, making it difficult to relax, sleep or feel present.
Taking care of the nervous system and you is a returning and nurturing process. We highly recommend are later evening classes (at least once a week) to start the journey of taking care and allowing some quiet and healing.
Regulating the nervous system isn’t about eliminating stress. It’s about helping the body remember that it is safe enough to soften, recover and rest.
The Power of Breath
Your breath is one of the simplest tools you have to influence how you feel. When life becomes busy, your breathing often becomes quicker and shallower. By slowing the breath, you send signals to the body that it can begin to relax. You could try this very simple practice:
Breathe in gently through your nose for a count of four.
Breathe out slowly through your nose for a count of six.
Repeat for two or three minutes and notice how your body begins to settle.
All our teachers are trained in varying breath modalities and can mined for more advice and wisdom.
Wellbeing Through Community (this is a biggie)
Wellbeing isn’t only something we create alone. Feeling connected to others plays an important role in our mental and physical health.
Practising yoga in a welcoming community offers more than movement. It creates space to slow down, breathe together and remember that we don’t have to navigate life on our own.
At Mudra Yoga London, we believe that small moments of connection—sharing a smile before class, moving together, or enjoying a cup of tea afterwards—can be just as nourishing as the practice itself.
Small daily habits can have a profound effect over time. We invite you to explore these practices with curiosity, kindness and patience.
If you’d like to experience the benefits of breath, movement and meditation in person, we’d love to welcome you to a class at Mudra Yoga London.
