New to Yoga

Beginner Yoga in Stoke Newington - New to yoga? You’re very welcome here.

If you’re new to yoga — or returning after time away — Mudra Yoga London offers beginner-friendly yoga classes in Stoke Newington designed to feel calm, supportive and unintimidating.

You don’t need to be flexible, strong or confident to begin. Our small group classes offer space to learn at your own pace, ask questions, and gradually build a steady, sustainable practice.

Beginning yoga can feel daunting, especially in larger studios. At Mudra, we intentionally keep classes small so teachers can offer clear guidance and individual support.

Our beginner-friendly approach includes:

  • Smaller class sizes

  • Clear, unhurried instruction

  • Options and variations throughout

  • Emphasis on breath, ease and awareness

  • A non-competitive, welcoming atmosphere

Classes are taught with care and attention, allowing you to feel supported rather than rushed.

What to expect in your first class

A typical beginner-friendly class at Mudra includes gentle building, simple flowing or held postures, and time and options to rest. Teachers offer clear verbal guidance and demonstrate when helpful.

You are always encouraged to take breaks, move at your pace, or adapt postures to suit your body. There is no pressure to keep up or perform.

f you arrive feeling unsure, that’s completely normal — and you won’t be the only one.

Which classes are suitable for beginners?

Many of our classes are appropriate for beginners, particularly:

  • Slow Flow

  • Restore

  • Yin

  • Beginner Yoga - we sometimes run more specific courses

  • Flow Yoga (email to enquire if appropriate)

Some Flow or Dynamic classes may also be suitable if you feel comfortable with steady movement. If you’re unsure, our teachers are happy to help you choose a class that feels right.

Do I need to be flexible?

No. Flexibility is not a requirement for yoga — it’s something that can develop over time, if at all. Our teachers offer options and encourage listening to your body rather than pushing into shapes.

Yoga at Mudra is about awareness, steadiness and care, not achieving postures.

What should I bring?

We provide mats and props at the studio. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing you can move in and arriving a few minutes early to settle in.
